Meals on Wheels

Picture this: you’re elderly, and you get a letter in the mail asking you to come to a nursing home. It’s tiring having to make your own food and do other stuff, so it doesn’t seem like you have a choice… BUT WAIT!!! Meals on Wheels is an organization that delivers fresh meals right to your doorstep. They may even come inside and have a friendly chat! I believe that we should support Meals on Wheels because Meals on Wheels brings healthy meals and kindness to people who can’t make food themselves. We should donate $175 to Meals on Wheels because they need supplies and room to work. Many people believe that elderly people should go to a nursing home where they can have everything they need, but a lot of seniors want to stay in their own home, where they have made many memories.

Meals on Wheels provides friendship and healthy meals to people who are unable to make their own. Meals on Wheels has a huge menu that works with anyone’s diet, which must have taken a lot of time. But not only do they deliver food, they also chat with the clients, and according to their official website, 92% of senior citizens said it made them feel more independent and less lonely. The organization is still growing, and currently 2OO people volunteer to serve over 2OO clients! Delivering a total of 12O,OOO meals, EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

Our class should donate $175 to Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels needs lots of money for kitchen supplies and food, as they are always actively delivering all around 0nondaga County. Also, Meals on Wheels doesn’t have a very large space to work and cook their food, so a part of the donated money will go toward expanding their kitchen so they can be more efficient.

Some people may say it would be more helpful to put senior citizens in a nursing home, but Meals on Wheels says NO! People deserve to stay in their own home where they have lived their lives, so if they can’t make their own food or if they’re lonely, Meals on Wheels comes to save the day!

I believe we can make the world a better place by donating to Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels does an amazing thing for helping our community, and we should support them! People would rather live in their own homes than in some random nursing home, and Meals on Wheels helps make that happen! So from June 3rd to June 7th, we should donate $175 to Meals on Wheels, and they will continue making the world a better place!

Subaru Share the Love 2021

November 18, 2021 through January 3, 2022

Meals on Wheels has participated in the Subaru Share the Love Event since its inception in 2008.

Through Meals on Wheels America, the Subaru Share the Love Event has helped deliver more than 2.3 million meals to America’s seniors.

Subaru and its retailers support Meals on Wheels because it’s part of their commitment—to leaving the world a better place than they found it through the core values of trust and love.

Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased from November 18, 2021 through January 3, 2022, to one of four national charities designated by the purchaser or lessee.

Neither Sleet nor Snow

Appreciative note

Delivering through the recent periods of snow is asking a great deal of our volunteers, especially our kitchen volunteers who travel during the early morning hours. This small note from one of our newer volunteers offers words of encouragement, as he passes along the appreciation from those we serve.

Sometimes it helps to remember how important your work is to those that really depend on you. There are neighbors who wouldn’t eat without you. Thank you for all you do!
